Is a failure to handle the economic crisis really able to destroy America?

When we look at it, even though America's economy could crash I see too many elements on the US side. Even if say China did become richer it wouldn't outweigh its power in other areas. Think medical, media, comm tech, space exploration, biotech, nanotech, education etc... just too many various areas the US is way ahead of everyone else. Not to mention there are many allies that although annoyed by America ultimately can attribute their own nations stability and world stability to the presence of the US. What do you think?
