Does an iud (paragaurd) hurt upon removal and has anyone experienced complications upon removal?

I am absolutly terrified to get my iud (paragaurd) removed next week. i have had it in for about a year and it was extreamly painfull to get it put in! So im just wondering if it is as painful to take it out as it was to get it in? Im also very worried about complications :(
