Why did Aslan tell Susan and Peter they cannot return to Narnia?

I watched the movie the other day and i got confused... Why are they not allowed to go back? Aslan said they ' have learned what they can from this world-now its time for them to live on their own'. But i dont get it... Is it because they are older? - They have to live their own GROWN-UP life? Help please?!
